When I saw the thumbnail, I thought it was a photograph. And when I saw the fullsize image, I still thought it was a photograph. It's a extremely clean and realistic render. And I love that car. ;) :+fav:

Very nice! How are you making the models? Jusy freemousing it/eyeballing, or you have a source of dimansions? Looks prettymuch like the real thing!

I use "blueprints" 3 view scaled drawings to set up the basic proportions, but lots of is is done from photo references and like you say eyeballing it. All 3D models (lacking actual CAD data) are simply visual approximations.

In case you need just one more comment telling you how amazingly cool this piece is, this is it.

I often play with 3D Studio Max and although I have made considerable improvements over the years, it is work like this that truely inspires me to try ever harder to reach new heights of realism. You continue to confound the senses, as my brain tells me this was created on a computer, yet my eyes insist it is a gloriously sharp photograph of a real car.

Keep up the good work.

3d-palace.com Register and dlwnload the multi-part video tutorials. Especially the Audi A3 from "blitz". I feel it's one of the best out there. Also On Cgtalk.com. theres a "famous" thread on boxmodelling a 300ZX - search for it. It's mind blowing and stupidly comprehensive.

This is a very nice, very clean model. Tell me, do you work on 3d cars commercially? You could get work in that field with this sort of skill. Nice to see you put detail in the reflections, adds another element of realism. Impressive model, awesome job.

Stupendous work! Im a BMW owner, and a huge fan of all things BMW. You really captured an authentic BMW silver. The lines are all flawless, and the little details really make this render sick. I thought it was a picture unzoomed, and almost thought it was when i viewd the bigger version. Fav+ fer sure :]

They were a major pain. Essentially it's a combination of geometry, a translucent lens, over a reflective inner shape, and careful texturing, that provides the glimmer. The lens is mappes with a retouched photo derived image, with various permutations of that same image controlling the specularity and self illumination. So it's more trickery that the interaction of light.
