Technical Illustration exercise - 90% Photoshop. 10% 3D Studio Max.

This is one of 4 mountain bikes in my garage. I think this one is the most interesting to ride and look at, so I wanted to try to paint it as photorealistcally as I could.

Capturing the various metallic shades and reflections in the paint were the most challenging part. Some items like the gears and crankset were modeled in 3D Studio Max to assure accuracy of the repetative elements.

Done at 1800x1400 resolution. 27 layers (actually a lot more, but I merged things as I went along) 3 days to complete.

always wanted to model a bike. i think i might actually do it now. though I'm pretty new to the modeling game.
