I hate the internet. I thought you might get a kick out of a note this fool sent me in response to my comment below:

Carbon-Vanilla said the following:

Are you a bicycle mechanic or motor cycle mechanic? Cause I wasn't sure after looking through your gallery and favorites folders after I read your comment on `dangeruss' picture of his "Mazdaspeed 3 cyclist edition 2" image. I would expect to see some kind of photo or image of your work shop, collection of bicycles or social outings with cycling enthusiasts; though I didn't see anything on your DA account (okay, I take that back there was one render of a racing bike frame but, that's it) or Facebook page.

I just want to know if what you wrote was true, I don't like liers.

My response:

Well I am certainly not a liar. I don't know why I am taking the effort to defend myself about a comment I make on Deviant Art, but if you're really interested I have been a bicycle mechanic since 2002. I have worked on everything from department store brands to the most high performance cycles in the world.

A picture of the studio I wrench at, or a candid of my bikes, or friends and I cycling wouldn't really be art in my opinion, so I don't see a need to take one and post it. I stare at these machines every day, so I don't see the need of having favorite folders full of bicycles or Thule equipment or anything related to cycling.

It's great to know a random person would put in the effort to go through my gallery, favorites, even my facebook page, then send me a note to accuse me of lying in a comments section. Get a life, buddy...

That is just AWESOME!

Though as an avid road cyclist, I've never really felt comfortable with hitch-mounted bike racks. I always have that lingering feeling of the entire rack just falling off with the bike on the highway. DX I'd prefer a roof-mount over a trunk strap-on rack; eh, more security and peace of mind. The Thule cargo box atop is a really smart idea if you plan on carrying a lot of equipment for group rides and plan to take along spare change of clothes, tools, parts, etc.

I'm actually working on saving up for the Mazdaspeed 3 as my long term get-around-town-and-country-car. XD The simple fact that it has a manual transmission really is a plus for me; how many people these days really know how to drive a stick-shift... honestly, maybe only a hand full who are really skilled at the task. Last time I let someone barrow my car, I got it back totaled. Shushed like a sandwich front and back, never again!

Beautiful work!

Thanks. I've had several hitch racks and I love them. The bikes stay cleaner, the wheels remain on, less wind buffeting, better gas mileage and... I've never once destroyed the bikes, car, rack and garage in one stupid move like 3 of my friends have done with roof racks.

Truck racks, you can keep 'em. Check out Kuat racks for something really cool.

Oh hey! This is great, another cyclist; I had no idea man. :XD:

Hmm, well... I've never been concerned with the wind buffeting but, now that you mention it... the gas mileage does concern me a bit. I'll have to pay attention to the amount of fuel I'm using. I do have a hitch rack, I just don't use it because of that one fear. I'll give it a shot and see if there's any difference in my cars performance. Oh and I've never had an accident like that, O_o I guess it's a good thing I don't have a garage to go into.

I took a quick look at Kuat Racks and wow, my eye's just lit up... I'm gonna have to wait until after the hitch mount I have has something happened to it before I waste my money on something don't need. Thanks a lot for the reference Dan!

PS. you should do more bicycle related renders man, I know cars are your thing so bike mechanics shouldn't be too hard, right?

not owning a car, I dont use racks. I bike everywhere. haha. but whenever I do take my bike somewhere, on a trip or such, i just take the wheels off and put it in the trunk. wayyyyy safer than any rack out there.

Aww man, I certainly hope you're drinking a whole lot of protein shakes... that takes a toll on your body. But I hear yah about biking every where, if the destination isn't far, I'll throw the bike road and pedal off where ever. Yeah packing the bike in the trunk is safer but more messy in the assembly later (that's if you don't mind it, I don't). I do hope your careful about not dirtying the fabric of the car... grease is a bitch to clean.
