Tunnel Runner by dangeruss Tunnel Runner by dangeruss
Based on concept art by Malaveldt : [link]

Mike has become my favorite conceptual artist lately. His ideas and art are very inspiring. I wrote him with a request to recreate some of his stuff in 3D and received his blessing, so here's another collaborative work.

Here's a neat urban tunnel maintenance vehicle that utilizes fairly conventional and contemporary technology in an unusual way.

Modeled and rendered in 3D Studio MAX over a 3-day period. Textures were created in Photoshop and procedurally. Compositing done in Photoshop.

Curious though, what sort of computer do you use to make these?

This is seriously one of the best and most creative ideas of futuristic transportation I have ever seen. More creative than the heads of Sci-Fi movies are. I would like to see this thing in a Sci-Fi movie ^^

Perfect render, not to forget =D

Looks great man, only thing im curious about is. The red lights that have a nice glow around it and also the blue ones. Did you use a geometry to make that or just an omni light combined with video post>Glow effect. ?

Reason im asking is, its silly but i cant seem to figure out how to make any kind of geometry with a nice glow around it.

Geometry with a VrayLightMaterial applied. These become light emitting materials that cas a glow onto adjacent surfaces. I enhanced the atmospheric glows in Photoshop. If you're not using Vray, you can do the same thing with any standard material, and a material channel combined with video post glow effects. Consult your 3DS MAX help files. It's in there.
